Spreadshirt announces global logo hunt!

London & Boston - August 23rd: Spreadshirt today announces the start of a global contest for anyone to design Spreadshirt a new company logo! Anyone can submit a draft logo for comment and evaluation by an expert panel, other designers and the Spreadshirt community.

Coined the Open Logo Project (OLP) 1.6, this is the second time that the company has run a crowdsourcing contest for its logo. The last contest, hosted 1.6 years ago and focused mainly in Germany and France, received over 1000 submissions from over 600 designers. Each week during the contest, the top entries will win awards and a place in the overall grand final. To take part in the contest - with submissions, comments, voting or just lurking - head to http://olp.spreadshirt.net.

"Yes, we can see how some would consider it crazy to change a logo after only two years. And, no, this is not a publicity stunt," said Jana Eggers, CEO Spreadshirt. "We found a tagline that better represents what we do, and now is the right time to change our current logo to support it".

Spreadshirt worked with an international branding firm to better understand the company's brand through the eyes of employees, shop partners, customers and potential customers. Learning from research in these groups, the Spreadshirt team identified "your own label" as a tagline that reflects Spreadshirt's mission to be "the world's creative apparel platform". This tagline better represents the business and the goals of their customers and shop partners. After deciding on the new tagline, the natural step for Spreadshirt was to turn to its community again for a logo that better supports the new tagline. "I know how talented our community are and I cannot wait to see the creativity they are going to show us," added Eggers.

The contest will run from the 27th August - 14th October involving an external panel of judges. Casting their beady eyes over the entries will be:

  • laFraise - Spreadshirts own t-shirt design contest site, who will offer one of every t-shirt they print for the next year as a prize.
  • Branded - International branding experts
  • Dr Frank Piller - Open Innovation & Mass Customisation expert
  • ISO50 - Renowned Graphic Designer and all round genius Scott Hansen
  • Computerlove - European community for Creatives

In total there are over 10 different awards worth over €14k. For example the winning designer will receive a 2.4ghz Macbook Pro, €3,000 in cash and an interview in Computer Arts magazine. Each panelist will also offer an award in their interest area.

"We will use the additional panel awards to recognize out-of-the-box thinking, collaboration, community favorites and more," adds Adam Fletcher, OLPs head honcho "Even if you're not the winning designer you can scoop a number of other prizes, or just waste a lot of your time learn a lot from looking at the work of the other designers."
