How do I earn money, selling articles and custom created products via my own client application using Spreadshirt API v1?

For those of you that start writing their own client applications based on Spreadshirt API v1, quite quickly the question arises: How do I earn money, selling articles and custom created products via my own client application using Spreadshirt API v1? Therefore, in this blog post, I want to explain, how you can earn money with articles, products and designs that exist already and products and designs created via Spreadshirt API v1.

Most important to know is, that Spreadshirt allows you to configure article and design commissions for partner articles and designs. The article commission is the money the partner gets for each sold article. The design commission is the money the partner collects for each sold product or article that uses the design.  Product prices are always calculated automatically and may contain the design commission. Article prices are usually calculated using the product price and the article commission.

So, if you want to sell articles of your shop via your own client application, you can earn money configuring the article commission. If you want to allow your customers to create products with your designs via your own application, you can earn money configuring the design commission. But what do you do, if you want to write an own application, where your customers can create products with their uploaded photos or with text only or with designs from the Spreadshirt marketplace that are owned by other partners?

In all those cases, you basically want to earn a fixed percentage of the product price as commission. Therefore, Spreadshirt supports two different shop types: standard and designer shop. Spreadshirt standard shops usually allow partners to sell previously created articles only and earn the configured article commission for each sold article. Spreadshirt designer shops usually provide a t-shirt designer (aka confomat) that allows customers to create their own products using designs from the partner or from the Spreadshirt marketplace. Using a designer shop, the partner earns for each sold product the design commission for his designs and a fixed percentage commission for each sold product (~20% right now).

So, in all those cases, where customers can create their own products with their uploaded photos or with text or with designs from the marketplace, and you want to earn the commission for each sale, you need to setup a designer shop and use that shop in you own application to create the customer products and order them for the customer using the shops checkout.
