Display images when categorized by topic

Is there a way to add a background to your shop images when they’re being displayed by topic? They don’t default to model images (which would be even better than a background), so when you have a design in white you can’t see it because it’s a white background/PNG. I don’t want to change the entire background of my website, I like the clean look as it is.

In the design settings, under metadata, you can choose whether it will be displayed against a white or grey background:

If you prefer a different colour, you can set it to the colour of the product in page settings->product list page:

You can also choose a custom colour for your products in shop settings-> appereance:
